Karisa Deming of Studio Shag was there with her camera. Her bike won 3rd Place in the Custom Sportster Class at The Rat’s Hole Bike Show. Karisa is a proud Harley owner but reported that there were some awesome sport bikes starting to come onto the scene in Dayona. She is happy to report that the days of “sacrificing those bikes to the Harley Gods in bonfires seem to be gone”.
Message from Karisa regarding Florida Motorcycle Laws. I think the following is relevant and needs to get out to the biker community before they head to Florida for Bikeweek next March...They are tough and in my opinion stupid for the most part but worth knowing about before you get the fine! Also, note that these fines do not include court costs which are tacked on in addition to the fines!
These new laws that went into effect here in FL on October 1, 2008. Before you head to Bikeweek there are a few things you need to know... (The new Bike Laws they just passed are assenign but the penalties are outrageous!) For instance a wheelie will now have a first offense fine of $1,000 and is a moving violation... 2nd offense is $2,500 and your license is revoked for 1 year... 3rd offense is a 3rd degree felony with a mandatory $5,000 fine and a loss of drivers license for 10 years! The SAME, yes I said SAME fines and loss of license for not having your license plate properly affixed in the horizontal position! The exact same penalties apply if you exceed the speed limit in excess of 50 mph or more in any posted speed zone. This last speed one I'll say okay you’re right I can understand that, but the first two violations are a bit over the top to me! In case you want to look them up, the Florida Statue Numbers are as follows in sequential order... #316.2085(2), #316.2085(3), and #316.1926(2)...Share this with anyone you know who's planning on riding in FLORIDA please! There are a lot of vertically affixed license plates in the bike world and I think the penalties are outrageous but they are a law here now so we have to abide.
