HOOTER$ & $COOTER$ POKER RUN NETS $2,000 FOR KOMEN FOR THE CURE
(Text & photos by Ron Cox)
Leave it to the Ft. Myers/Cape Coral (FL) Chapter of the Chrome Divas to add a new wrinkle to a poker run and raise more than $ 2,000 for Komen For The Cure. Formerly The Susan G. Komen Foundation, Komen For The Cure funds research into the causes of breast cancer and searches for the cure. Starting out and ending at the Hooters in Ft. Myers, more than 100 riders registered for the Inaugural Hooters & Scooters Poker Run. Each card stop was at a Hooters Restaurant, including those in Cape Coral, Ft. Myers Beach and Naples. More than one rider paused at one or more of the restaurants to sample the world famous wings, have an adult beverage or two and admire the amply endowed servers. Paying the tab was made easier by the 25% discount cards each rider received as part of the registration package. And the cards were good for 30 days from the day of the run! After dispensing silent auction items and door prizes, K. Bain won the Best Hand prize of $150 with four 8’s and promptly donated one third back to Komen. Susan G. Komen for the Cure®, the global leader of the breast cancer movement, has invested more than $1 billion since inception in 1982. As the world’s largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists, Komen is working together to save lives, empower people, ensure quality care for all and energize science to find the cures. Thanks to events like the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure®, and generous contributions from its partners, sponsors and fellow supporters, Komen has become the largest source of nonprofit funds dedicated to the fight against breast cancer in the world. The Ft.Myers/Cape Coral Chapter of the Chrome Divas has been one of the leading motorcycle clubs in Southwest Florida in raising funds for charity and with this Hooters & Scooters Poker Run it continues to lead by example.
