Photos by Bart Mitchell
Inside the Silverado-Franklin Historic Hotel and Gaming Complex registration and the kick-off party were a hotbed of activity. Picking up credentials and getting the bikes organized while checking out who was on the scene was the order of the morning. The Legends 2k9 Builder Display took over the Deadwood Tobacco Company and inside the Silverado-Franklin Hotel and Gaming Complex. Technical excellence met prestigious artwork suspended by two wheels kept bikers busy as they waited for the registration to end and the ride to begin. Also on display to pass the time until the ride was the “Capture the Essence of Art Collection” presented at the Lucky Nugget Gambling Hall. Enjoying twelve of motorcycling and Black Hills’ inspired artists as they were featured as 2009 Essential Artists. Aside from viewing the collections of abstract, portrait, watercolor and sculpture Legends Riders had the opportunity to connect the artist with the art. Bart took all this in and the social scene prior to the ride. While on the ride which, with its fifty mile ride, defines a new perspective of beauty as riders, celebrities and builders are escorted through the sleepy hills of Nemo and spectacular twists and turns of Vanocker Canyon. This route accentuated the beauty of the Black Hills from Deadwood through Sturgis and finished at the gates of the Legendary Buffalo Chip. This awesome event raised $61,000 for the chosen charities which included the Black Hills Children's Home and the Sturgis Motorcycle Hall of Fame and Museum. Once through the famous gates of the Legendary Buffalo Chip, the reception planned specifically for Legends Ride contributors launched. Riders are treated to convenient parking immediately after arrival and special entertainment for the duration of the reception. This exclusive party takes place at the Chip’s Softail Lounge and gives direct access to the Lichter Exhibition Hall featuring Motorcycles as Art. And, WOW, what amazing art. Also part of the reception was the Essential Artists and Legends Ride Memorabilia Live Auction at the Chip Softail Lounge. The auction gave everyone the chance to start a memorabilia collection or accent their current works with art, autographed items and more! So sit back and enjoy it all from Bart’s photographic perspective.
