More than 250 riders and passengers converged on Harley-Davidson of Ft.Myers(HDFM) on Sept. 4th to ride in the 9th Annual Jim Perno Memorial Ride to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association raising $6,787 for the day.
Departing from the normal poker run format, this year's ride was a parade around Ft. Myers ably escorted by officers from the Ft.Myers PD and deputies from the Lee County Sheriff's Office.
Upon their return, the riders were treated to some tasty grub furnished by Truck Daddy's Back Alley Grill. Truck Daddy's is an offshoot of FUEL Tap & Tavern, a new tonsil wash emporium adjacent to HDFM and extremely biker friendly. Jim Perno's wife Celeste distributed the prizes which included a HDFM $150 Gift Card to John Dainus(SWFL HOG) for being the individual who raised the most money. Tyler Gilmer won the Best Hand with a full house, Janice Loughrie won(?) the $50 Gift Card for having the worst hand and special thanks to Steve Morris who won the $240 50/50 prize and donated the whole amount back to MDA. HDFM donated all the Gift Card prizes.
Jim Perno was killed in a motorcycle accident on his way home from work at Ft.Myers Harley in 2003. It was the Perno family's wish to keep his name alive and continue his deep commitment to MDA by teaming up with H-D Ft.Myers in sponsoring this ride.
