The Progressive International Motorcycle Show always brings out the crowds looking for the latest and greatest on two wheels and the Long Beach stop delivered the goods. From new bike launches to wild customs and even demo rides, there is something here for everyone. Be ready to cover a lot of ground in search of the bike of your dreams.
The top manufacturers use the event to introduce new models to the buying public. This is generally the first opportunity to get up close and personal with new bikes before they hit the showroom floor. The brand new Scout Sixty from Indian Motorcycles garnered a lot of attention. Entering the market with an astonishing $8,999 price tag, expect this smaller displacement Indian model to introduce plenty of people to the historic brand. The new Scout Sixty was surrounded by a slew of custom Scouts modified dirt-track style by Roland Sands. Those RSD Scouts are headed to Las Vegas for the Super Hooligans class of the inaugural Superprestigio of the Americas. That is going to be a fun race to watch!
The new Ducati XDiavel also turned a lot of heads but maybe the beautiful woman swarming the booth had something to do with that. Ducati states that the XDiavel is their first true cruiser and now considers the original Diavel a sport cruiser. The X in the model name represents the blending of the two sides of the bike, the pure sport that Ducati is famous for paired with the cruiser spirit of the bike. The new bike comes with a bigger motor, broader torque curve and a leaner, meaner look.
Custom bikes are always on hand as part of the J&P Cycles Ultimate Builder Custom Bike Competition. With builders competing for cash prizes in four categories, the customs tend to fall on the wild side of the ‘from mild to wild’ equation. The manufacturers even got in the game if not the competition with the OEMs showing off a variety of customs in their booths. Star brought a slew of custom Bolts decked out in Star parts. Victory got in on the game as well with a Cross Country supercharged and done up in a Bandit theme from Smokey and the Bandit built by Lloydz Motorworks.
There is always something to see at the Progressive International Motorcycle Show no matter what you are looking for.
