Top 1 Oil Products Company has again joined America's premier motorcycle rally team, Rally Pan America, for the world’s most grueling and challenging endurance race, the 2009 Dakar Rally. This rally now has the nickname “El Dakaro”.
Being held in South America, it starts January 3 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The Top 1 Oil sponsored Rally Pan America team is led by veteran rider Jonah Street and team manager and Dakar veteran Charlie Rauseo, along with an immensely experienced support crew. The team will be up against a nearly 3750 mile (6,000 km) grueling route that traverses the plains of Patagonia, the Atacama Desert and the Andes all during horribly intense summer temperatures. The race concludes on January 17.
Frank Ryan, Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Top 1 Oil Products stated “Following last year's disappointing cancellation of the Dakar Rally, Top 1 is very excited to be back with Rally Pan Am for the 2009 event. Including 2008, the 2009 competition will be the 5th consecutive year we have been a primary sponsor of Rally Pan Am. We are looking forward to a strong showing from Jonah and the team and we wish them a safe and successful race."
The original North African Dakar route was mentally and physically challenging. Moving continents, the desert and mountains of South America will be equally so. Since the route is new to most of the competitors, traditional European favorites won't have the previous year’s advantage of racing in their own back yard. Rally Pan America expects the 2009 Dakar Rally to be a level playing field, chock full of opportunities for teams with the experience, equipment and endurance to handle the pitfalls of extreme rally racing.
Top 1 Oil has been a long time supporter of racing events that test the limits of performance. In addition to sponsoring Rally Pan America’s 2009 Dakar entry, Top 1 Oil recently became the world’s “fastest motorcycle oil” when the TOP 1 ACK Attack streamliner shredded the existing absolute FIM motorcycle land speed record with a screaming 360.913 mph run on the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah.
