The Metric Revolution part II

On February 23rd AFT Customs and Elk Grove Cycle Center had an open house to celebrate a relationship between the two companies. AFT Customs is a world champion custom metric builder while Elk Grove Cycle Center is a traditional Honda dealership. The two have decided to work together to increase sales and really show metric V-Twin riders what their bikes can morph into. And even with a heavy downfall of rain, the riders came. The event was a hit! With short notice and the bad weather many dedicated followers of Honda and of AFT Customs showed up for a free hotdog and some camaraderie.

It was really cool to see the two groups working together. The partnership immediately showed a return on the efforts by having attendees buy products and accessories after being bitten by the custom bug. To see AFT Customs 1300 VTX next to a stock one is night and day and for a guy that has seen thousands of ground up and heavily modified bikes in his time, it was still amazing. Even though Jim Guiffra’s bike (AFT’s Builder/Owner) was highly customized, you could see where even some simple bolt-on items could really set the stock bikes apart from the pack. Some risers and new bars, a lowering kit and an exhaust system and the bikes have already come a long way…not to mention fit the rider better and provide some additional horses.

So it proved a point, if you build it, they will come. Being that Elk Grove Cycle Center sells only Honda equipment, folks of all back grounds showed up. Harley riders came with the intention of putting their kids on the back of a quad while others were looking at dirt bikes. There was even a Harley rider there asking about a generator for his home. It was really nice to see a whole different world of folks out there and they all took notice of the customs being showcased in the front show room.

And who would not notice. AFT customs brought the AFT girls (who, as always, looked great!) and even with the rain other vendors showed up. The hardcore vendors looking for a good time and a place to pop their tent up were there. HackerPipes, long time partner of AFT Customs showed with their team and some product and had a HOT Victory with some very aggressive pipes (rumor is they are doing the Zoomies for Honda next) on it and W8lessrotors showed as well. W8less, a producer of metal matrix composite rotors are now shipping the rotors for Harley Davidson but when some of the sports bike crowd saw them, they were amazed. Many said that they are paying well over 400 dollars for light weight rotors to skim weight off of their sportsbikes but they were not as light as the W8less product. W8less, at the time of the event, was also announcing that the rotors are now DOT approved! Soon, they will have the sport bike line shipping (within 60 days) and the sports bike guys are chompin’ at the bits to get them asap. Another Vendor that showed up was the Allstate Battery rep. Not a usual Vendor to see but since the demise of the magneto, every needs a batter so they were more than welcomed. The Allstate reps educated many folks on the differences of batteries and it was cool to talk with them. My bro even ended up buying a new battery for his sporty.

So, to all you dealers out there, embrace some of the publicity by working with local builders. The partnership was a test to see if the two motorcycle businesses could benefit from each other……the answer is HELL YES!

AFT Customs products can now be bought from Elk Grove Cycle Center and AFT is now getting referrals for complete customs. Both companies are getting referrals from the other and everything is happy. Partnerships such as this will help to bring the metric world to the level of the American V-Twin market and above. And as I always have said, provide FREE hot dogs and the people will show up—no matter what the weather throws at ya.
