Tailgater Bike Honors the Green
The Tailgater is a creation of Vandervest Harley-Davidson in Green Bay, Wis. It’s a customized 2016 Harley-Davidson XL1200V “72” Sportster with a paint scheme and custom features honoring the Green Bay Packers football team.
Gator Customs handled the repaint in Packer colors of green and gold. The detailing on the bike is amazing, ranging from yard lines painted on the rear fender to “football” taillights.
The Tailgater treatment includes H-D chiseled handlebars; an H-D Springer seat with a custom football cover; a Jockey shift kit; a 2-in. tank lift; white grips and pegs from the H-D Nostalgic Collection; a special timing cover; a H-D “Street” front fairing that’s been modified with a football helmet face guard; an H-D shift linkage; chrome dress-up goodies; chrome brake rotors and braided brake cables; plus a relocated ignition system.
The bike’s pulley cover features a special “Go Pack Go” cutout. There’s a chrome starter cover and a single-sided swing-arm bag that has a Ref’s Challenge hat, a referee flag and a whistle. There’s also a special “Boom” sound system with the amp/speaker kit located in the Ref’s Challenge pack. The smooth air cleaner is modified with holes to look like a piece of cheese from “America’s Dairyland” and even incorporates a beer bottle opener.
A light system in the fuel tank illuminated the Harley-Davidson logo on the tank and lighted lettering below spells out the words, “Leader of the Pack.” The bike carries a one-of-a-kind custom exhaust system and incorporates a custom backrest showcasing a replica of Pro Football’s Lombardi Trophy—an award named after legendary Green Bay coach Vince Lombardi.
Vintage Works had the custom Packer bike on display in its booth at the NEW Motorama in Green Bay early in April. The more the spectators looked at the Sportster, the more cool little touches they noticed.
