Randy & Christy’s Rides

Randy Carlson, of Tumalo, OR. sent us a couple of pictures of his and his girlfriend Christy’s ride. “I build a couple of frame up Buell based customs each year. Although this is not a ground up project it seems to grab the attention when it is out.”

This is my girlfriend Christy’s first ride. She purchased this 2002 883, rode it one season while I was penciling out the cost to make some changes during its first winter at home.

Details:

I pulled the spokes, and had them powder coated in satin black

Sumax fenders w/beehive tail light.

Stretched gas tank, and welded in a custom flush cap setup

1200 kit to the top end

I bolted up a 2000 XL Custom front end I had left over from a previous project, and used a Head Winds headlight.

Added shorter Progressive shocks in the back with lowered Progressive springs in the front end

The pic does not do the paint justice. The bright orange is shot with tons of craft glitter, and then shot with crushed glass. It literally looks like a disco ball going down the road. On the tank is “Wicked Witch” airbrushed in a curling smoke. You’ll see the custom cnc’d air cleaner is a witch flying on a broom. The cnc’d timing cover has a broom scribed into it. The sprocket cover also says “Wicked Witch” on it.

This little bike is fast. Never do I get off of it without a huge smile on my face. Always fun.

Details

Redneck Engineering frame

Custom cnc’d air, sprocket cover, timing cover, and knuckles shift linkage

200mm rear on the rear with Avon tires

Buell inverted front end, Buell brakes, Buell wheels (I’m not crazy about using the 17” front wheel)
Nash Motorcycle Company handle bars

Joker machine hand and foot controls.

I try to keep a rigid, and a shocked Buell in the shop always for myself to ride. She’s got the bug. She’ll keep the “Wicked Witch”, and I’m working on a rigid bobber frame (Flyrite Choppers) that will hold a 1200 XL Buell engine for her now.
